The Benefits Administrator assists in the administration of various employee group insurance plans, FMLA, workers compensation, paid and unpaid time off, health and safety, and unemployment insurance by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – other duties may be assigned

  • Processes status changes and reviews claims.
  • Processes open enrollment benefit plan transfers and Section 125 notification.
  • Administers the COBRA, UI and FMLA programs.
  • Provides vendors appropriate documentation for life, pension, and disability benefits claims.
  • Assists in preparing materials and in presenting benefit plan changes to employees.
  • Consults and advises employees on eligibility for company benefit plans and provides benefits orientation.
  • Handles the intake for disability and workers compensation claims.
  • Maintains Employee Resource Manual’s and Handbooks.
  • Maintains and distributes Summary Plan Descriptions and benefit specific information material to employees.
  • Updates and distributes annual employment posters.
  • Coordinates employee relations events.
  • Acts as backup for payroll.
  • Assists in the administration of Employee Relation programs, such as service awards and birthday cards.
  • Performs background checks on applicants.
  • Responds to notifications from state agency regarding unemployment claims filed by former employees.
  • Maintains employee benefit files and other record keeping.
  • Assist employees with benefit related questions.
  • Provides administrative assistance to the Health & Safety specialist with training records,  MSHA/OSHA and environmental permits and compliance.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE                              

This position requires an associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two or four-year college, three years’ experience in benefits administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  A basic understanding of accounting is required as well.

COMPUTER SKILLS                              

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be exceptional using online benefit solutions, Excel, Word and Outlook.  A working knowledge of ADP HRIS software is highly desirable.
